Having decided I cannot remain silent on this, I now feel daunted by the task of expressing that which churns inside me. All I can say is . . . bear with me, and forgive me my artlessness.

This was a response in another thread, but it seemed to comprehensive--and while tangentially related to the topic, too far beyond its particular scope--to let languish there.

In discussions about freedom of religion, belief in [G/g]od(s), and the like, an assertion is often made, on both sides, that belief or non-belief in deity, in received morality, in any metaphysic, is something that one chooses.

Thanks for explaining, it was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to write that. I'm going to go read more about Nichiren Buddhism and I'll read your seed too. I doubt that I'll ever end up self-identifying as a Buddhist (or anything else) because that's just the way I am about things. But I am very interested in eastern beliefs in general and Buddhism specifically.
Among the core concepts that I hold to be true are a rejection of anthropocentrism in favor of all conscious life being equal, a lack of a belief in any God that concerns itself with the lives of mankind, and that individual awareness is an illusion constructed by the animal mind that is not representative of the true nature of consciousness (akin to pantheism, sort of). From what I've read thus far, these ideas seem to be similar to those of many eastern faiths. They certainly are completely antagonistic to the Christian faith that I was raised in.— Eric0038
Hey thelyamhound,
I read one of your posts in which you said that you and your wife were Nichiren Buddhists. I am very interested in learning more about Buddhism because I have found that Buddhist beliefs closely parallel my own personal beliefs, which I have developed over years of studying science and medicine. So I was wondering if you would be kind enough to explain what a Nichiren Buddhist is and how it theologically differs from other branches of Buddhism?— Eric0038
Great comments! Keep up the good work!
Take care— McSpocky
